This bridge accesses the island between the Le Claire Canal and the Mississipppi Lock and Dam #14. It goes over a lock that is used by the USACE maintenance equipment. The commercial lock is further east.
Jan Danielsen posted five photos with the comment: "Up and then down., The new Bascule Bridge in the canal near lock and dam 14. Pictures taken from Pleasant Valley, Iowa. 10-27-26."
Douglas Butler shared with the comment: "Credit to Jan Danielsen : The new Lock & Dam 14 Drawbridge is in Pleasant Valley, IA."

| 1 [The building and fixed bridge that is in this photo. So the new bridge is upstream from the old fixed bridge. The design of the bridge is simple; it uses two hydraulic rams to move it. In the photos below you can see the counterweight.] |

In order to use this lock, they would have to removed the fixed bridge. Here is a view where they are placing a barge under the bridge to remove it.

And here we see the bridge "parked" upstream of the upper gate from a boat that is going upstream in the lock.

And they probably have to put the bridge back after the boat leaves. The new drawbridge will save them a lot of hassle with the fixed bridge for each locking.

The 'boat view' is the same photo as the 'walkway view'.
