Big Muddy River, Illinois: Deck Plate Girder/Through Truss Bridge 554-A over Big Muddy River, Mobile & Ohio Railroad. This Deck Plate Girder-Through Truss-Deck Plate Girder Bridge 554-A over Big Muddy River brought the M&O mainline into Murphysboro. It replaced a predecessor bridge that had been disassembled, transported, and reassembled in 1915 as an overgrade crossing of the Meridian & Memphis RR at Meridian, Mississippi. The bridge pictured here was built in 1911-1912 and photographed on 8 May 1916.
