2015 Bridge over and 1974+2007 Dam on Oued Bou Regreg River in Morocco

Bridge: (Satellite, 1,365 photos)  Mohammed VI Bridge is named after the Morocco king.

Dam: (Satellite)  Barrage Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdallah

The dam is in the canyon just upstream of where this bridge crosses the canyon.

The dam was completed in 1974 and raised in 2007. [mdpi]

The flow of the river must be too low to justify a hydroelectric power plant. Note that the spillway has some damage about 2/3 of the way down.

In fact, the purpose of the dam is to supply drinking water for the nearby 8 million inhabitants. [mdpi] So they would not want to waste any of the water to generate electricity.

There must be a scenic overlook that provides this view. I saw quite a few photos taken from this location. The bridge is part of a new bypass to ease congestion in Rabat.

This bridge was built by Chinese companies. It is "first - and largest - cable-stayed bridge built on the African continent....Indeed, the bridge combines the highest concrete/steel structure in the world. In service for nearly 5 years, the bridge is 100 metres [328'] high and 950 metres [.6 mile] long."
[That is not very high or long for a cable-stayed bridge. I wonder what the qualification of "concrete/steel" means that rules out the bigger cable-stayed bridges.]

This, and other sources, put the hieght at 200m (656') instead of 100m. Still, the towers of a bridge in Hong Kong, which was built in 2009, are 290m (951') tall. And they are made with concrete and stainless steel.

The bridge was completed in Apr 2015 and consits of a 376m (1234') main span and two 183m (600') side spans. [crecg]

To raise the water level, it appears that all they had to do was add a gate structure to the spillway.
