Tunnel: (Satellite)
The CNJ shared the Lehigh River valley with the Lehigh Valley RR up to the Wilkes-Barre area.
Metrotrails posted two photos with the comment:
Metrotrails Then and Now Series: Historic view from the top of the Mt Pisgah Plane, along the former Mauch Chunk Switchback Railway, compared to the same scene on our more recent hike. The view is of the Lehigh River, and the recent one was taken just before the new Reading and Northern rail bridge was begun below. The former Central Railroad of New Jersey (originally Lehigh and Susquehanna, lease to CNJ) crossed the bridge seen below, and the Lehigh Canal Upper Division can be seen just beyond. Most of the Upper Division was destroyed by flood in 1862, but the southernmost end of that division remained in use later. The former Lehigh Valley Railroad tracks are seen just beyond the former canal site.

It is always nice to see that some trail advocates and railroad executives understand that a bridge can be shared.
