1950s Banqiao Dam on Huai River Collapsed in 1975 in China

(Satellite, this is evidently the replacement dam.)

It was the Supertyphoon Nina that destroyed the dam.

The original dam was clay. The typhoon stalled over the reservoir and it received 18". That is half of their normal annual rainfall. And it was 40" over the previous record. 62 dams failed in a signle night.

This dam doesn't match today's satellite image.
