1927/1968 WA-261 over Snake River near Joso, WA

(Bridge Hunter; Historic Bridges; HAER; Satellite)

The information concerning the 1914 UP/OWR&N bridge was moved to here.

What does 1927/1968 in the title mean? In this case, it means that it was built in 1927 across the Columbia River at Vantage Ferry and then relocated here in 1968. [Bridge Hunter]

The original bridge consisted of a Pratt through truss and two cantilevered end sections. The first Vantage Bridge served motorists until 1962, when a higher bridge was constructed over the reservoir created by the Wanapum Dam. The old Vantage Bridge was put into storage. In 1968 it was rebuilt to cross the Snake River at Lyons Ferry and it is now the oldest steel cantilever bridge in the state.
