Oct 2024: "The Tennessee Valley Authority announced...that a roller compacted concrete gravity dam will be constructed downstream from the existing dam at the Rogersville power plant to address erosion concerns....The new Roller Compacted Concrete Gravity Dam will be constructed downstream of the existing north embankment and will connect to the northern end of the existing concrete overfall spillway. This will require minimal modifications to the current dam." |

"A dam failure could result in the release of mercury-contaminated sediment that has accumulated immediately upstream of the dam, TVA said. The mercury didn’t come from TVA, but from a chlorine plant that once operated in Saltville, Virginia, more than 100 miles upstream." |
It looks like they also made the embankment higher.

Barnard Construction posted
Earlier in the month of August [2026], crews completed the final placement of roller-compacted concrete (RCC) required for the right embankment buttress on the John Sevier project. This milestone means that the right embankment is now fully protected against scour and no longer requires 24/7 monitoring. Crews worked around the clock for 39 straight days to complete the RCC scope of work. |
