1908 Rotherhithe Tunnel under River Thames in London, UK

It opened in 1908. "At the time of its construction, the tunnel was said to be the 'largest existing underwater tunnel'." [academic-accelerator]

Several Google search results were about walking through the tunnel. I didn't bother to read any of them because the titles indicated it is an unpleasant experience: air pollution, sharp bends and close proximety to traffic.
