Marion 8700 and Anthracite Strip Mining near Hazleton, PA

I didn't even know anthracite coal was strip mined until I came across this post. It looks more like a quarry operation. Unlike Illinois Basin strip mines where the seams are thin, but shallow, these seams look thick so they are willing to go deep.

Built in 1965, this ole girl swings an 85 yard drag bucket on the end of a 300' boom and weighs just over 4,600 Tons!
