2016 I-30 Margaret McDermott Bridge over Trinity River in Dallas, TX

(Archived Bridge Hunter; Satellite, 362 photos)

Note the levees at both ends of this bridge. Even though the Trinity River's flood plain is wide through Dallas, it has rather high levees.

The UCEB bridges that carry 11 lanes of car and truck traffic cost $120m. The cable-stayed arch bridges that carry bikes and pedestrians cost $115m. The arch bridges were designed by Santiago Calatrava. [BridgeHunter] Evidently, the arches are a monument to Margaret McDermott's ego.

Southland Holdings posted two photos with the comment:
Project Lookback: Our team at American Bridge Company was part of the Joint Venture that completed the landmark twin-arch pedestrian bridges in Dallas, TX known as the Margaret McDermott Bridge. The signature arches are 1,125 feet long and 290 feet tall spanning the Trinity River. Perfect for both pedestrians and cyclists, it's a must-see landmark that adds modern elegance to the city's skyline. The pedestrian bridges were part of the larger Trinity River Corridor improvement project to go along with the flourishing recreation and wildlife area.

This bridge is one of the spokes for the Horseshoe Project that rebuilt the interchange between I-30 and I-35E during the 2010s.

"As first reported by the Dallas Observer, worries about the vulnerability of the cables connecting the bridge’s arches to its base have led to a long-running blame game involving Calatrava, TxDOT, and the city.... Much of the blame has been cast on the city’s apparent decision to skip a “stress test” of the anchor rods holding the bridge’s cables in place." The "arches are intended to complement the relatively problem-free Calatrava-designed Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge."
