Pope Glucose Factory in Geneva, IL

I know that Chicagoland was once the candy capital of the world. I suspect that it was also the corn syrup capital of the world. (For example, Ingredion/Corn ProductsCargill/Cerestar, Sweetener Supply Corporation. It appears the ADM Corn Sweeteners plant has been gentrified.) Or maybe it was Illinois that was the largest producer in the world because of corn mill plants like the one in Decatur.
The Chicago area has been making sugar from corn since at least 1888.
