The
Torrence Avenue Bridge was blown up March 3, 2016 and will cost $13 million to replace and will cause a two-year disruption of traffic because the Illinois Department of Transportation did not properly maintain it. This Archer Avenue Bridge was sited as an example that a Pennsylvania truss bridge can have a long service life in a comment by Roger Deschner in
Bridge Hunter:
A practically identical Pennsylvania truss bridge over the Cal Sag at Archer Avenue is in much better condition, despite carrying heavier traffic including more trucks, and in fact was just repainted.
