These tunnels carry the CSX main line through the Eastern Continental Divide. [wikimapia] The original 1870 bore is on the left (south) side and the 1932 bore is on the right. [Bridge Hunter]
Ted Gregory posted Long live the C&O!! Gone but not forgotten C&O A Cabin - NOW DEMOLISHED It was located at the east portals of the State Line Tunnels My pics from Oct 31, 2015 |
The coordinates are for the A Cabin that was removed by CSX in 2018. The tower still in the satellite image.
Dennis DeBruler commented on Ted's second post Ted provided the coordinates of the tower in another group. Since the mountains in the East are green instead of brown like they are in the West, it is easy to see where the tracks disappear into the tunnel. 37.7473035, -80.2443974 |

Given the width of the original bore, it was double track. After digging the new bore, the original bore was converted to single track. That increased the clearances for that track.
