I'm trying to decide if the bascule leaves are wider than they are long. Historic Bridges agrees that the leaves are rather short. In fact, Bridge Hunter confirms that they are shorter than they are wide because a leaf's length is 35' but the deck width is 40'.

As we have come to expect, the bascule bridge replaced a swing bridge.

Historic Bridges explains that when they renovated the bridge in 2003 they used special posts similar to the old ones but with mounts for heavy inside beams to meet safety requirements. They also reused the original rail panels so that on the riverside one sees the historic appearance.

An over view of the dam, lock and paper mill. I've seen paper mills that make office paper that have gone out of business. But this mill makes toilet paper and Americans still use that.

This is the only spillway I can remember seeing that has a sharp angle in it. That does make for an interesting water flow.

A trail uses a walkway over the spillway so there are several photos of the hydraulic jump created by the two water flows colliding at the base of the spillway.

I noticed the "castle moat" drawbridge on the upstream side of the lock in the above photo. It appears that the drawbridge provides an access road to the paper mill.

In 2018, they had a serious maintenance issue because of the leak at the bottom of an upper gate.

The hydropower plant by the lock generates just 1.5mw, and it is owned by the paper mill.
