Douiglas Butler posted Source from Library of Congress North Damen Avenue Bascule Bridge was replaced crossing the North Branch Chicago River in Chicago, IL is identical to the 18th Street Bridge crossing the South Branch Chicago River. [I searched the LoC for this photo, but I could not find it.] |
It is rare for Chicago to use a single-leaf trunnion bridge.
Since the Grebe Shipyard closed, many of the bridges on the North Branch no longer need to be movable.
