Adam Dubec posted Lock No. 4 Seen here is a notch in the wall where a door once was. The original lock sill still exists and a small creek flows thru the lock. [This photo and caption are in tug44.]

tug44, this webpage has several more photos of the lock. "Old Lock 4, a double lock, is part of the 'Enlarged Erie Canal' and was built about 1842. It's located on Elm Street at the intersection of Routes 787 and 7 in Colonie, NY. Note the openings in the head of the lock which were used as a spillway to control the water level above the lock."

tug44 "The lower end of the double lock. Notice the tunnel at the bottom where the spillway exited."
This photo helps explain the above tug44 photos. The second tug44 photo has the southern chamber on the left and the northern chamber on the right. The first tug44 photo is of the northern chamber.

Adam Dubec posted Lock No. 4 D&H bridge over the Old Erie Canal between Cohoes and Watervliet with Lock No 4 behind it possibly the Juncta point of the enlarged Erie canal with the Champlain Canal October 23 1921 01 Hudson River Lightkeeper: The original "Juncta" of the Erie canal with the Champlain Canal was located at Dyke Avenue in Cohoes. After the enlargement of the canal the junction was relocated south to Maplewood by Erie Street and Canal Street. From there the Erie turned west and Champlain went north. Lock 3 was just before the old Maplewood School and Lock 4 to the northwest before continuing through Cohoes. [Unfortunately, I can't determine where the old Maplewood School was located.]
Elm Street is in the background. The south chamber now has a lot of fill.
