Bob Smrtz posted Old Milwaukee Road bridge crossing the Chippewa River near Durand Wisconsin. This branch line ran between Red Cedar and Menominee Wi and was abandoned in 1973. It is now a hiking/ biking trail. Tim Schneider: I believe this bridge was moved from the main line at spring green,wi Bob Smrtz: Tim Schneider yes, it looks like part of it was. Reading the history that Coroi Alexandru Mihai posted it looks like all 3 spans originally came from different locations and were reused here. Very interesting. Scott Rogers: Yes, this is the Red Cedar State Trail. This is just north of the junction with ex-MILW Chippewa River State Trail that runs from Durand to Eau Claire. There are also 2 former Milwaukee Road bridges within the City of Eau Claire that are also bike/pedestrian trails. |
