Wujiang Bridge Mozhai (A Very High Extradosed Bridge) in China

The highest bridge pier in Asia which measured 206 meters [676']!  the Mozhaiwujiang Bridge, which is now under construction in southern China's metropolis of chongqing.

Short towers are the signature of an extradosed design. As John Weeks commented on the first extradoesed design built in North America: "What makes this bridge type unique is the angle of the suspension cables. Having the cables go directly from the towers to the bridge deck is becoming an increasingly popular design (where there is no catenary cable strung between the towers), a type known as a cable stayed bridge. However, on this bridge, the cables are at a shallow angle where more of their force is pulling towards the bridge tower than is lifting the bridge deck. The bridge stays up not because the cables are holding up the deck, but because the cables are pulling the deck segments towards the towers making them a really strong beam. One of the highest extradosed bridges in the world, the 708 meter long Wujiang Bridge Mozhai is part of a new G65 expressway link that goes south from Pengshui City to the Youyang to Yanhe Expressway. The main span configuration of 153+296+153 meters is supported on towers as tall as 256 meters. The tower top height above the deck is 44.0 meters with another 13.5 meters of ornementation. The main pier adopts a single-leg variable-section hollow thin-walled pier with a maximum height of 210 meters and 185 meters, and the maximum height from the top of the tower ornamentation to the foundation on the west tower is 281 meters. There are more high bridges over the Wujiang then any other river on earth.

It took eight months to build the construction bridge. The materials for that bridge were transported using barges. "Each bridge tower is equipped with 21 pairs of stay cables, with each pair consisting of 73 high-strength epoxy-coated steel strands ranging from 85.5 meters to 267 meters in length and weighing between 7.7 tons and 24 tons."
