The 2,365' (721m) long bridge has a 300' (91m) main span. The "barge swing bridge" that it replaced had a navigation channel of just 140' (43m), and it "was struck by barges about once a month, making it the second-ranked impediment to navigation on the Texas portion of the

One thing I love the most about storm chasing is seeing so many things you'd never see unless you lived in the area or had a purpose for being there.
This bridge is called "corkscrew bridge" and is the only one of its kind and provides access from Sergeant to Sergeant Beach, Texas. I had no idea this even existed until last week and I was geeking out at the engineering behind this unique bridge and had to get a drone perspective of the whole feature!
James Fidler: It's not very old (2021) and it replaced the last swing bridge in Texas. I took my wife (she's from Mansfield, Ohio) down shortly before they made the switch over. They were both unique in their own way.
JJ Martinez: James Fidler there is a swing bridge in port Isabel.
[Looking at the photos provided in the comments, it is a pontoon swing bridge. I can believe that was the last pontoon bridge in Texas.]

As a nearby resident (25miles) I've crosses the old swing bridge for 50 or so years. Watched this bridge over the intracoastal canal being built and have crossed it numerous times. Will never understand why TEXDOT went to the added expense of the corkscrew on the mainland side. |

Used to be one of the last swing bridges on the intercostal. The town is Sargent, Texas. Just got hit pretty bad by the Hurricane Beryl. |

Here's what it replaced. Lots of memories on this ol bridge. From late night fishing to bullshittin with the bridge tender. Even rode on it a couple times while it opened. Good times |
