This covered bridge in Bridgeton is the one that is featured in most of the documentation of the
31 covered bridges. The building on the left is the
Bridgeton Mill, which has several more photos that include the bridge.
This covered bridge was first built in 1868. It was bypassed in 1967, refurbished in 1988-89 and built again in 2006 because of arson on Apr 28, 2005. It has two Burr-arch spans. The 225' long and 9' high dam was built in the 1910s. [

Bridgeton Covered Bridge ~ Parke County Indiana “Indiana‘s Most Famous Covered Bridge” was first built in 1868. Bypassed 1967. Replaced 2 earlier open bridges which fell in. Refurbished 1988-9 by Bridgeton Heritage Foundation. Destroyed by arson April 28, 2005, and rebuilt by Dan Collom and a community of volunteers in 2006. The mill, originally established in 1823, was purchased by Mike and Karen Roe in 1995 and restored into the working mill it is today |
