2020 Hutong (Shanghai-Suzhou-Nantong) Yangtze River Bridge in China

This bridge is so new that it still has different names.

"It is the world's first highway-railway dual-use cable-stayed bridge with a span of more than 1,000 meters [1,092m]....The bridge was built over a section of the river about 6 kilometers' wide on which more than 30,000 ships routinely navigate....The 330-meter high main tower is currently the highest of its kind in the world." [I believe "of its kind" means a combined rail-road bridge.] The open caisson foundation is also currently the largest in the world. A new type of concrete was developed to solve pumping difficulties.

"The length of the bridge is 6.9 mi (11.1 km ), the overlapping part of road and railway is 22,930 ft (6,989 m ), the length of the bridge over water is 19,117 ft (5.8 km ), the length of the south approach bridge is 11,053 ft (3,369 m ), and the length of north approach bridge is 6,155 ft (1,876 m ). The main tower is 1083 ft (330 m) tall, which makes it the tallest highway and railway bridge in the world. The upper layer of the bridge is a two-way six-lane expressway (Tongxi Expressway) with a design speed of 100 km/h; the lower layer is a two-way four-lane railway with a design speed of 200 km/h (Shanghai-Sutong Railway) and 250 km/h (Tong-Su-Jiayong Expressway) railway). The Shanghai-Sutong Yangtze River Highway and Railway Bridge adopts a steel truss girder cable-stayed bridge structure with a main span of 3,583 ft (1,092 m). It total cost about 15 billion yuan (US $2.15 billion )."

The main channel is on the south side of the river. The middle of the bridge appears to be built on landfill. An arch bridge is used to create a channel on the north side of the river.

"Steel-UHPC light-weighted composite bridge deck technology, developed by Prof. Shao Xudong from HNU College of Civil Engineering, was widely used on the steel deck of the railway bridge. Fatigue cracking and asphalt pavement damage are two major challenges in steel deck maintenance all over the world. Prof. Shao and his team have probed into the problems, and developed the ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) light-weighted composite bridge deck system. The UHPC layer with a thickness of only 45 to 60 mm, together with short studs and steel deck, formed the light-weighted bridge deck, and can increase the flexural rigidity of designated parts to more than 30 times."
