This post-tensioned concrete bridge, which uses a unique U-shaped girder design, supports around 80,000 tons of water and allows vessels to cross the valley without locks. It was built using the incremental launching method, with a total construction cost of approximately €29 million. The bridge, standing 131 feet high and supported by 18 piers, is a key element of Belgium’s waterway network, linking the Meuse and Scheldt rivers, facilitating both commercial and tourist traffic. Built with prestressed concrete, its structure is supported by 28 pillars with a diameter of 3 meters, strategically spaced every 36 meters. In addition to facilitating river transport between the Meuse and Scheldt basins, the aqueduct plays a crucial role in the development of commercial and tourist navigation in the region.
