Bob Dover posted The Gilpins Falls Covered Bridge is a Burr arch truss bridge near North East in Cecil County, Maryland. The bridge structure has a double-Burr arch truss. The bridge was originally constructed in 1860, and then restored in 1959 and 2010. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A modern bridge has been constructed directly adjacent, so the bridge has been closed to traffic. However, it is preserved, with a small parking lot just off of Route 272 less than a mile from an exit on Interstate 95. Because it is so close to the main highway, and prominently visible to passing traffic, it gets a large number of tourist visits. |
