The
depot a few blocks south of this bridge is a trailhead for the Katy Trail.
"The first Katy bridge in 1874 was the fifth bridge across the Missouri. The current bridge, a 1932 replacement, was the longest lift-span in the united states when constructed." [
plaque]
The lift span is 408' (124m). [BridgeHunter]
This must have been before dams were built on the Missouri River.
The US-40 bridge is a combination of concrete and steel girders. My guess is that they are unloading potash for fertilizer.
