Scott Ellman posted Tug and barge going into lock 32 this morning [Oct 29, 2024] heading westbound. Brenda Jo Nanni: Heading back for the winter. Closing up shop. We also were NEVER allowed to use tires as fenders on our boats. We spent the winter weaving Manila rope fenders that put painful splinters in your hands no matter what gloves you wore. The lint and fibers flying around the the rooms where we were making fenders was horrendous. You could put on a mask but it still got in your eyes and down the neck of your cover alls Talk about itch! Omg you have no idea. And we had too much pride in our boats to hang ugly tires from the side even if we had been allowed to I see now all they use is tires. Scott Eckerd: Who the hell is piloting that push boat William Finch: Scott Eckerd I see someone in there. Does it matter who it is? Brenda Jo Nanni: William Finch yes as a matter of fact it does. We worked on the canal for many many years with these scows. In order to run a tugboat and hook up, we had to be licensed by the USCG. It wasn’t easy. We went through hell and high water to get our license. At our own expense. Now they employ boats that don’t need a captain license. Because they have purchased boats that are just several feet short of the license requirement. So yes. We are interested. I personally went to Toledo Ohio and took a 3 day test to pass my USCG license. So we are curious and we will continue to be. |
