NYC+Milw/II&I RR Bridge over Illinois River near DePue, IL

(Bridge HunterLa Salle County Online Museum; see below for satellite)

The bridge over the Illinois River that was used by the Indiana, Illinois, & Iowa Railroad (II&I) and the Milwaukee Road has been removed. Bridge Hunter also lists the Streator & Clinton Railway as a user. But I could not find any info on that railroad. It must have been bought by II&I.

The bridge caught on fire in Dec, 1964, when a barge carrying petroleum products was ignited when it scrapped against a bridge piling. The bridge tender was killed. In 1984, Conrail dismantled the bridge at the request of the US Coast Guard.

  1. What year did Conrail stop running north to Howe or Ladd IL?
