(Satellite?)
I spent some time looking for this enlarged culvert on a satellite map. I started with the topo map at the bottom of these notes because the creeks are hard to find amongst the trees. I then used street view to compare the trees with Photo #4. Not only did they not match, but the creek crossings also seem to have a bridge instead of culverts. Even though I could not find the location, I decided this construction was worthy of note. One reason is the kind of money that is being spent to save the fish. Another reason is the use of precast concrete so that they can relatively quickly replace the crossing. For one, they don't have to worry about the concrete curing. Although closing this road doesn't look like a big deal because there is a better SR-8 next to it.
The Walsh Group
posted four photos with the comment: "We've successfully completed a two-week shutdown of State Route 108 near McCleary, Washington to remove and replace two culverts that will open fish habitat in waterways beyond SR 108. This is the latest milestone for the overall project where Walsh is removing six fish barriers along SR 108, through Mason and Thurston Counties, and replacing them with fish-passable structures to be in federal compliance with fish passage underneath WSDOT highways."
