IHB over Grand Calumet River (Bottle Trains)

It turns out, IHB has more than one crossing of the Grand Calumet River

Near Gibson Yard: (3D Satellite, Street View)

SC&S Route: (3D Satellite) When I looked at the image, I noticed what looked like a pier for a swing span. Fortunately, Historic Bridges took photos of the pony-truss swing span.

Observed an interesting Meet if both the Loaded and Empty Bottle Trains this afternoon just outside of Gibson Yard. Crews parked the units directly next to each other on the bridge and swapped trains before continuing on their separate ways.

A pair of Indiana Harbor Belt SD20's lead IHB train 338 out of Gibson Yard on a beautiful morning. Harbor SD20's are common around Gibson Yard, but it's quite uncommon to see them paired up. Over 117 years of service combined between these two veterans!

IHB 1509 brings the 190 Job north on the SC&S with cars for Burnham. Seen here crossing the Grand Calumet River.
Dennis DeBruler In a satellite image, I noticed a pier for a swing bridge. That is another reminder that the Grand Calumet River used to be navigable.
