Covered Bridge over Ohio & Erie Canal near Cherry Street near Waverly, OH

(Satellite, Cherry Street crossing the canal.)

Pamele Moskie posted
Covered Bridge over the Ohio & Erie Canal, Kilgore Farm, Near Cherry Street, the bridge had a trap door in the floor to allow farmers to unload their grain onto the canal boats below, Waverly, Ohio. Columbia Dr/Bristol Village area. Kilgore Estates NW of SR 335.

I was surprised that the canal was already abandoned by 1906. But the canal is still marked by a dashed blue line. There were three railroads in the area. I wonder if every dotted line across the canal had a covered bridge.

I knew the bridge would no longer exist, but I was curious about how much evidence of the canal still exists.

Northeast of Cherry Street, there is a ditch and a towpath trail.

And east of Bristol Blvd., there is still water in a remnant of the canal. I included the berm on the right because the topo map shows how the canal was built along the side of that berm.
