1908 BNSF+UP+Amtrak/SP&S+GN+NP+UP Oregon Slough Bridge at Portland, OR

This bridge is south of Hayden Island and BNSF Bridge 9.6 is north of the island. Like the northern counterpart, this bridge was designed by Ralph Modjeski. [HistoricBridges]

Jan Zweerts posted two photos with the comment: "Columbia Lightship departing North Portland Harbor threads the BNSF Oregon Slough swing span MP 8.8 Fallbridge Div. bound for Astoria."
Earl Poulsen: It was a floating navigation marker. Portland TV stations would get weather and the swells reports by shortwave like they did on ships out in the ocean. Today, the ship is retired and a buoy reports weather conditions.
