Constructed and placed in operation in July 1937. The site underwent major rehabilitation from 1989 to 2006. The dam consists of concrete structure 811 feet long with five roller gates and eight tainter gates. Earth embankment 9,800 feet long with a grouted overflow spillway 1,350 feet long. |

The Lynxville area is noted as being a great birdwatching area. It is a major flyway for ducks, hundreds of thousands of which pass through this area twice a year. Bald Eagles are in this area all year long, since it is the southern part of the Eagles summer range, and the northern part of the Eagles winter range. Other species seen in large numbers include Tundra Swans, American White Pelicans, Turkey Vultures, and hawks. Locals suggest a boat ramp just north of Lynxville as being a great birdwatching location. |
Every photo I found so far has the gates up. The previous few years have been wet. But here is a photo with the gates down.

Check out this time lapse video from Lock and Dam 9, near Lynxville, Wisconsin! The St. Paul District navigation program provides a safe, reliable, cost-effective and environmentally sustainable waterborne transportation system on the Upper Mississippi River for the movement of commercial goods and for national security needs. To do this, the district maintains a 9-foot navigation channel and 13 locks and dams from Minneapolis to Guttenberg, Iowa.
