1877 Bertram Road Bridge near Cedar Rapids, IA, Wrecked While Relocated

(Bridge Hunter broke on Mar 22, 2023; Historic BridgesSatellite)

At least they tried to save it.

It is a good thing I checked Historic Bridges for the location of this bridge. According to the index,  Linn county has several truss bridges, and I initially found the wrong one.

Note that it was a tandem crane lift. I wonder if they inadvertently introduced a compressive lateral force on the bridge by not properly coordinating their slewing.

"The builder of the Bertram Road Bridge was the Wrought Iron Bridge Company of Canton, Ohio. Wrought Iron Bridge Company grew to become the largest pre-1900 bridge builder in the country, initially making their name by building bowstring truss bridges, but then leading the way in the transition to pin-connected trapezoidal truss bridges." [HistoricBridges] Historic Bridges describes the many truss details that were pioneered by this wrought iron bridge.
