| Jerry Craig posted Attached is a Daily Pantagraph photo of a 600ft steel span railroad bridge installed over the Mackinaw River at Mackinaw Dells around 1947. The original wooden trestle bridge installed here in 1888 was nearly half a mile long and was thought to be one of the longest of its kind in Illinois at the time. Mitch Hartman: Closed my eyes everytime going over that bridge on the NS. Downhill and on a curve by the time you know if it was still there you were stating across, the only thing I hated about running in dark territory. [Some comments indicate that NS uses it at least once a day.] |
