1872 Horse Drawn Streetcar on Milwaukee Ave.

Public transit on Milwaukee Ave., 1872Candace Bennett OMG, you can see Hebrew letters on the bottom of the car. There was a sizable Jewish community on the west side back then!
There is so much history in this picture that it is worthy of its own posting. Most of Milwaukee Ave. was northwest of the 1871 burn zone. Note the mud streets and just two axles on the streetcar. It appears that the driver had to ride out in the elements. Is that a conductor on the other end?
