1888+1904 Pratt Truss: (Bridge Hunter)
1948 Parker Truss: (Bridge Hunter; Historic Bridges; Satellite)The reason for the two dates for the Pratt truss bridge is that 1904 was when the 1888 bridge was repaired "after two spans were knocked out by flood and ice." [WatervilleHistory] (A lot of sources have 1904 as the build date for this bridge.) The 1888 date explains why the piers were made with cut stone.

WatervilleHistory Throughout the depression, the town had been warning that the bridge was unsafe and needed to be replaced. On July 24, 1941, a milk truck proved it was unsafe. Fortunately, the two occupants suffered only minor injuries. "Telephone lines and Waterville Gas and Oil lines had crossed the bridge and were pulled down." |
After the span collapsed, the abandoned interurban bridge on the south side of town was converted to a very narrow road bridge. I'm sure the drivers were relieved when WWII was over and the replacement bridge was finally built.
ODOT "The Waterville Bridge is [was] one of only four truss bridges on the state and federal highway system in Ohio." [I wonder where the remaining three bridges are.] |

Once again, the street view is more recent than the satellite view. The satellite delay is good because it gives me the time machine I need to capture an image of the truss.
Satellite |
I'm saving a couple of images since this bridge will be disappearing from the satellite map sometime in the future.
3D Satellite |
A street view does let me capture the "tunnel effect" of this long truss that Historic Bridges mentions.
I include the river on the left to capture the water turbulence. Notice that the sandbars we see in the satellite image are covered in the street view. The May 2019 date reminds me that 2019 was a very wet year in America.
