Jonathan Konopka posted This is the NS Black River Lift Bridge in Lorain, Ohio. It is a vertical lift bridge that was built in 1974 and carries the NS Cleveland District over the Black River. Geoffrey Moreland: Actually, the same exact design as the NKP one in Cleveland. 9:27 YouTube video starting with an interior view of the control cabin. [I could not understand the dialog so I skipped to scenes of, and from, the bridge at 6:30.] |

One of 23 photos posted by Jim Huber From Geoege Siss III: shows ice skaters on the Black River, south of the Nickel Plate Railroad (New York, Chicago and St. Louis Railroad) swing bridge. Notice the ore ships docked for the winter, caked in ice. The winters were very harsh during that time period, which explains the thickness of the water on the Black River. Picture was taken in 1911. |
