Today's Throwback Thursday photo was taken at Lock 24 near Geneseo in 1905 during construction of the mitre gates, looking west.
John Schlegle: Always enjoy seeing timeline photos of the Canal. Note the overflow structure (lower left hand of picture). These were more common on East end Marshall Gate Locks. Lock #24 had Miter Gates, which normally had overflow valves in their Lock Gates. Locks #22, #23 and maybe Lock #25 had similar designs as Lock #24. |
