2015 I-65 Abraham Lincoln Bridge over Ohio River at Louisville, KY

(Bridge Hunter; B&T; Satellite)

A rather new bridge and they already have to repair something? (Note the Road Construction Ahead sign.)
The original I-64 bridge on the left is now 6 southbound lanes. The former Big Four railroad bridge on the right is now a trail.
The estimated cost for this project was $1.3b where the interchange on the south end of the bridge cost almost twice as much as the bridge itself. [B&T]

"The new bridge was built as a stay cable bridge with three pairs of pylons. ...The bridge has a total length of approximately 642 m (2,106 ft) and consists of two 228.6 m (750 ft) long main spans and two 92.35 m (303 ft) long side spans....In total, 176 stay cables including anchorages and 597 t of strand were needed." "The bridge carries six lanes of northbound I-65. The existing Kennedy Bridge, located immediately upstream is being rehabilitated and reconfigured to carry six lanes of I-65 southbound. The project also includes improved and expanded approaches and the reconstruction of the Kennedy Interchange between I-65, I-64, and I-71 in downtown Louisville to eliminate design deficiencies and safety hazards."
[The old bridge is downstream from the new one, not upstream. I would expect the Federal Highway Administration to have a better understanding of bridges.]

The two main spans provide "a minimum clearance for the navigation channel of 680 ft x 71 ft (207 m x 22 m)." The deck "is supported by two planes of stay cables in a harp arrangement anchored along the edges of the deck. The three pylons have vertical legs without any cross beam above roadway level."

"The bridge-type selection process included a 12-month comprehensive public involvement program. Maintaining the requirements of function, cost and compliance, Michael Baker developed three final bridge recommendations that achieved informed consent and prepared a final bridge type selection report that detailed all aspects of the selection process and incorporated comprehensive data concerning each of the three recommended alternatives, including single- and three-tower cable stays and a three-span through-arch bridge. Based on these recommendations and public input, a three-tower cable-stayed option was selected."

"Some critics say that the Abraham Lincoln Bridge is not being used enough to warrant its cost of construction. The bridge, originally built to ease congestion, is proving to be unused by commuters who do not want to pay the toll. Among the original planners for bridge funding were some who resisted using tolls and the electronic transponder technique of payment without actual toll booths." [wikiwand]

When I visited the Big Four bridge in May 2015, they were building the pylons. I was able to get different angles as I walked across the railroad bridge.
