Main span: 1,408km (0.9miles)       Tower height: 322m (1056')
A shallow deck was chosen for aesthetic reasons so the cable stays were added to stiffen the bridge. A stiffer deck was also needed because it also carries railroad traffic.
"A total of 176 stay cables was installed, the longest of which measure more than half a kilometre and contain an incredible 151 strands, weighing in at almost 120 t."

The estimate for the project was $3b, and it was built in 27 months.
"It is the world’s first bridge to accommodate an eight-lane highway and a two-lane railway on the same level. At 59m [194'], the bridge is the world’s widest suspension bridge. It has a main span of 1,408m, making it one of the longest railroad suspension bridges. The bridge towers are 330m-high above sea level, making it the world’s highest tower....The two railway tracks are proposed to have 25kV overhead electrification in the near future. The preliminary design allows for freight trains up to 400m-long and a speed of 80km/h, and passenger trains up to 400m-long and running at a maximum speed of 160km/h."

The total length is 2,164m (1.3miles). The 322m towers are now (Jun 2023) the world's second tallest bridge structure.

Traffic was estimated at 135,000 vehicles per day in each direction. The total cost was 4.5b (US$2.5b). But in Jun 2018, traffic did not meet projections, and the debt needed restructuring.

In exchange for shares in the bridge, some Chinese companies injected US$688m dollars.

These are just back-stay cables. They are not holding anything up.

The suspended deck is held by the cable stays on the outside and the suspension cables near the middle.
