Triple Locks on Dresden Sidecut Canal to Muskingum River in Dresden, OH

They have eroded, but there were wide basins between each of the three locks so that boats could go in both directions and pass each other between the locks. The basins were just long enough to allow boats to pass so that the canal could rise 24' in a short distance.

These three locks lifted Dresden Sidecut Canal out of the Muskingum River Valley. This canal was a short canal that connected the Ohio & Erie Canal to the Muskingum River.

The maximum boat size was 14" by 80'.

Locks and dams were built on the Muskingum River to make it navigable from Dresden to the Ohio River. [CanalSocietyOhio]

To be researched: there is a fleet of three locks up by Coshocton, OH.
