Milwaukee Dunning Branch

Paul Musselman posted three photos with the comment: "Dunning lead coming off of Milw. West line...top is looking N towards Fullerton...other is some industry and second set of rails heading toward Milw. Rd. main line.......also broken swt stand and replacement...."
Andre Kristopans: Any part still used? Grand Ave crossing removed.
James Fergus: Very curious what year these were taken, that white building with the green windows was part of the old Illinois Gear company where my mom worked which was torn down 2010, but with the apartment complex in the first photo which was next to the Davies Supply Company where my dad worked for 30 years I am guessing these photos have to be early-mid 2000s…
Paul Musselman: James Fergus Yes, taken around then....

The only thing left of this branch is the curve of a property line.

This branch used to serve the Mt. Olive Cemetery and Chicago State Hospital as well as a quarry and some industry. Back in the horse & buggy days, special trains serving cemeteries was an important business for Chicago railroads. And the Milwaukee would have delivered coal and patients to the state hospital.
1953 River Forest Quadrangle @ 1:24,000
The patients were carried in a hospital car with a doctor, a couple of nurses and security guards at each exit. It was called the "crazy train."
