MoW: Herzog GPS controlled ballast dump train

Screenshot from Video posted by Patrick J Laronde
Note how the gate of the partial car in the foreground and the front gate of the second car are not dumping ballast, but the rear gate is dumping. If you play the video, you will see that the rear gate will soon close because the cars are approaching a crossing.

Patrick's comment:
Herzog GPS PLUS train dumping rock on the Parry Sound sub Aug 07. Note how the doors close before the crossing and open again right after, not dropping a single rock in the crossing area.
Rick Leggett For those of us who were once 'door winders' and had to open the doors by hand (easy enough) and then use a cut off spike maul handle to crank them back up....this is beyond cool. Anyone who ever wound up a cut of center doors, while crushing the rocks caught in the edges (we 'poked' the rocks as much as possible first), can appreciate how much safer and easier these automated systems are. I can't find a photo of the cars I'm talking about, so the younger folks may not understand how labor intensive and back-breaking this job really was.

Fred Bain One job I did when I first hired on was to dump ballest on a cold late November day. We got in the cars and shoveled out what we could and then it was, hang on to the top of the car while the train shook the cars. That could never be done today lol.

Mark Stevens Dumped Ballest on the sled gang, never stopped at bridges.Close the door before the bridge on the run, ride the car over the bridge and have the door open at the beginning.Rember somebody could not close their door on a open deck highway bridge in time.C.N.R had to pay for a few paint jobs.
