(Streamlined steam locomotives have already been described.)
David M Laz posted
The very first two streamliner passenger trains not powered by steam stand side by side in Union Station, the UP 10000 and the Pioneer Zephyr. The UP was powered by a Winton 600 hp V12 Distillate engine. The Zephyr was the first with a true diesel engine, making it the first diesel passenger train.Richard Mead The first Zephyr (9900) was completed by the
Budd Company on April 9, 1934, powered by an eight-cylinder, 600-horsepower (447 kW), 8-201-A model Winton engine.
