MWRD posted Historical photo of the week: Construction of the original Ashland Ave. bridge over the Cal-Sag Channel on October 8, 1917. The 16-mile, 60-foot-wide channel was completed in 1922 and was later widened to its current width of approximately 225 feet. Joseph Obrien Least not forget that it was first dug as a feeder canal for the I and M canal completed in 1848. I believe that it was 40 ft. wide and 4 ft . deep. |
