1920 Road/C&O Bridge over Levisa Fork in Betsy Layne, KY

(Bridge Hunter; Satellite)

Ted Gregory posted
This was built as a RR bridge by the American Bridge Co in 1920.
Anyone have any additional historical info on this?
The C&O runs on the opposite river Bank, so I am assuming this was built to tap a coal branch.

A 1954 topo map, the oldest one I could find, shows it as a road bridge. But this map documents the spur.
Judging by some of the "lines" in the trees in other places, I think Lawson Hill road was built on the old RoW.

I agree with the comments on Ted's post that this railroad was probably a C&O spur to a coal mine. The depth of the girders indicates that this bridge was designed for a railroad, not a road.
