1904 Happy Hallow Tunnel near Bonnell, IN

(Satellite)

I spent quite a bit of time looking for the Big Four tracks going through a tunnel near Bonnell, IN. I should have watched the video first because the tunnel is a road going through a railroad embankment! The railroad is now Central Railroad of Indiana (CIND).

It struck me that the embankment should show up on a topo map. It does, and the map shows that the tunnel was needed to follow a narrow valley between two sets of hills.

  1. My God, is that dangerous. We would never have a public road like that in Illinois.
