Truss & rivets posted Cleveland’s Center Street Bobtail-Swing bridge circa 1970. Still in operation today. Now painted bright red. The last of its kind and the only one left in Cleveland. [It is not the last bobtail bridge because I know of several in Chicagoland. But none of them are still operational.] |
Douglas Spott posted three photos with the comment: "Center Street Swing Bridge Cleveland Ohio."
Ohio Department of Transportation District 12 Cleveland posted four photos with the comment: "Progress is being made on the Center St. swing bridge. An incredibly unique project, providing repair to a Cleveland landmark."
Stephen Rafaele Jerome: Is this the only swing bridge in Ohio?
Ohio Department of Transportation District 12 Cleveland: Not sure, but it is pretty rare as it is a bobtail swing bridge with the pivot axis on land rather than in the water. It's one of only a dozen or so bobtail swing bridges still in operation in the U.S.
Stephen Rafaele Jerome: According to HistoricBridges.org, this bridge is one of only two highway swing bridges in the state of Ohio, But the only one still operational
Brandon Michael Washburn: Is this the bridge in downtown Cleveland the two of them is always up I don't know what it's called
Dennis DeBruler: Brandon Michael Washburn No, the "always up" bridges were B&O railroad bridges. This bridge can't go up, it turns. It is under the Detroit-Superior high bridge and carries Center Street across the river.
