Train Watching: BNSF/Santa Fe near Kankakee River

On my trip to take pictures of the bridge across the Kankakee River, I encountered a train going to the bridge, while there, and after leaving there. Follow the above link to see documentation of the locomotives for the "while there" train.

While going there, I had to stop at a crossing for a southbound (timecard westbound) vehicle train. The locomotives were BNSF 6716 (ES44C4, built 2011) and 4129 (C44-9W, built 2002). They were pulling a vehicle train.

When I was leaving, the gates were down for the railroad crossing. So it was easy to take this picture out of the window of the car. But then it stopped before crossing the road. Fortunately, the gates soon went up. (Can the crew control the gates from the cab?) BNSF 7937 (ES44C4, built 2015) and CREX 1340 (ES44AC).

I grabbed a couple of pictures as I crossed the tracks. (There were no other cars on the road.)

I then parked the car to walk back to take better pictures. But before I got very far, the gates went back down and the engines continued south. Did the crew stop and then let me cross the road just to get better pictures???!
