I kept zooming out on the satellite image to get the end of the truck line at the grain elevator. Note that the elevator is inside the levee. I would have thought that they would have built the elevator on the other side of the levee and used a longer conveyor belt to the barge loading facility. Note there is no rail service. They must raise quite a few soybeans in Tennessee to supply this elevator locally.
Taking a closer look at a satellite image, it is obvious that they built a hill to the top of the levee on which to build the elevator.
Some of the photos uploaded for Bunge include the bridge in the background.
The water does sometimes make it all the way across land to the levee and the elevator's hill.
I didn't notice how asymmetrical the bridge was until I saw this photo.
in the 1970s when this bridge was being built i was running the field construction office for United Contractors of Des Moines Iowa. our part of the bridge was pouring the concrete deck, and also we had the steel truss painting contract and lasted for two years. our office and construction yard was on the same side of the river as the Bunge Corp, but on the north side of the bridge. if i remember correctly, Bunge only had one big silo in those days?
