This spur appears to be another example of some errors in a topo map. The map shows that the spur is connected to the C&NW tracks rather than the "L" tracks.

I found a 1951 photo that clearly shows a connection with the "L" and no connection with C&NW.

In the first photo, the two smokestacks on the horizon to the right of the tower were for the backshops of
C&NW's 40th Street Yard.
